PLANNINGCHARTS & APOLLODOR

The idea of PLANNINGCHARTS traces back to the early 1990s when a German check captain compiled regional relevant information for his new colleagues lacking experience on long-haul flights.

Dieter, Managing Director of APOLLODOR, continued his work for free since 2009.

In 2017 PLANNINGCHARTS were rebranded by APOLLODOR to enable further development of the charts.

Major improvements were daily generated charts including actual NAT tracks and a patented symbology.

Certainly we strive to achieve further improvements.

Managing Director

Dieter is an active Training Captain on A330/A340 with a professional experience of more than 35 years.

He is the Managing Director of APOLLODOR GmbH and he developed PLANNINGCHARTS from a private project to a unique professional product.

Software Architect

Oliver is a management consultant and IT architect.

He developed the online-shop as well as the data-repository, apis and the backend for the chart generation.

Visualisation Consultant

Paul is an expert in data visualisation at the Institute for Computer Science at the University of Rostock.

He advises the team how to optimise iconography and data visualisation on our charts.

The PLANNINGCHARTS Story

The Beginning

Initially, PLANNINGCHARTS were just handwritten notes on an RFC copy. This concept was soon improved significantly using a graphic programme.

These early charts were hand-drawn and were based on topographical charts overlayed with manual drawing of the aviation related items.

In those days modifications were made only once or twice per year. These charts were available until autumn 2009.

In autumn 2009 Dieter took over PLANNINGCHARTS and continued the work with the given infrastructure. However, he was striving for an improved version.

With Oliver he set up an independent database and improved the visualisation with the help of Paul.

Improvements initially focused on colouring and on the readability of the tables.

These charts were available until May 2017.

Automatic chart generation

Taking the next step on the way to making the charts professional, Dieter transferred the private project PLANNINGCHARTS to APOLLODOR GmbH, which was founded for this purpose and which is responsible for the marketing and further development of the charts.

Ever since the charts have been generated automatically every 24 hours. Atlantic charts with the actual NAT-tracks are obviously generated more frequently.

We take pride in the unique, patented airport symbol, which contains condensed information in just one symbol.
